Rosa Parks Academic Leadership Scholarship
The Rosa Parks Academic Scholarship was established in 1993 in honor of Rosa Parks. Parks is well known for her refusal in 1955 to give up her seat to a white man on a segregated bus. Her actions sparked a bus boycott, which became the first major demonstration of the civil rights movement. Parks devoted her life to encouraging the nation’s youth to stay in school, work hard, and advance their careers.
In order to be eligible for this scholarship students must meet the following criteria:
- Minimum 3.0 GPA
- Plan to enroll full-time (12 undergraduate credits, 9 graduate credits)
- Demonstrate financial need. We can determine your financial need by the results of your Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).
To apply, submit two letters of recommendation from a teacher or administrator in the school they are presently attending; a community leader (i.e., a professional business person, community or church program director; and/or a personal reference other than a family member) and an essay about student’s life and goals and how their goals have been influenced by Rosa Parks.
