The Michael Blankenship Social Justice Scholarship

In order to be eligible for this scholarship students must meet the following criteria:

  • Junior or Senior
  • Pursuing a Criminal Justice major
  • Students must have applied for and received criminal justice upper division standing
  • Plan to enroll part-time (6 undergraduate credits) or full-time (12 undergraduate credits)
  • Student must be able to demonstrate involvement in a significant way (volunteer or paid work) in furthering social and environmental justice (religious service is not sufficient).

To apply, students must submit an essay and letter of recommendation.

  1. Have you been admitted to the upper division Criminal Justice program?
  2. Do you demonstrate involvement in a significant way, either through volunteer or paid work, in furthering social and environmental justice (religious service is not sufficient)? See listing of acceptable agencies in help text. Other agencies with similar or related purposes may also qualify as appropriate agencies for paid or volunteer work.
  3. Please list your volunteer/paid agency work, position, length and job description of volunteer duties.
  4. Please attach a letter of recommendation from the agency's supervisor or volunteer coordinator. The letter should include pertinent contact information (phone and email) and should confirm dates and job description. To save as PDF: For Microsoft users: From Word document click File, Save As, and then click PDF or XPS. For Mac users: Choose print, click on PDF in the bottom-left of the Print menu, and Save as PDF. Do not use any special characters in the file name including periods, hyphens, apostrophes, etc. You should also include your full name and Boise State student ID number on the header of each page.
