Western Studies-Elmer Keith Award

The Western Studies-Elmer Keith Award was established in 1979 in honor of the late Elmer Keith. Keith’s technical expertise on firearms was unrivaled in his time. He had more than 45 years of experience as a gun editor and writer including many books and hundreds of articles. He worked for 12 years as a gun editor for Outdoorsman magazine and spent another eight on the technical staff of the National Rifle Association’s American Rifleman Magazine. He spent 17 years, first as a gun editor and finally an executive editor for Guns and Ammo magazine as well.
