H.M. (Hersh) Cummins, Jr. Memorial Scholarship
The Herschel Cummins Endowed Scholarship was established in 1999 through a trust set up by the late Herschel Cummins. Herschel was a student at Boise Junior College and during his time here became a member of the Pegasus club which led to an interest in his eventual career as a Navy pilot. Herschel served in WWII as a Navy pilot and remained on active duty for 23 years. He is even mentioned in the Dictionary of American Naval Aviation Squadrons. He was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross three times and the Commendation Combat “V” plus other medals of honor. After retiring from the Navy he spent another 12 years as a stock broker.
