Gene Cooper Memorial Scholarship
The Gene Cooper Memorial Scholarship was established in 1979 in honor of the late Gene Cooper. Gene was a letterman in football and basketball at Albion State Normal School and a 2-year letterman at the University of Utah. He was named all-conference and honorable mention All-American in football. Gene started his teaching and coaching career at Buhl High School in 1939. He later coached in high schools at Hagerman, Glenns Ferry and La Grande, Oregon. He was director of physical education and a coach at Southern Idaho College of Education and West Minister College in Salt Lake City. In 1955 he moved to Boise and became a coach at Boise High before moving back to Salt Lake to teach at Olympus High School. He then headed the department of physical education at Willamette University and ended his career as chairman of the department of physical education at Boise State University.
