The Drs. John & Trudy Comba Scholarship for Special Education & Early Childhood Studies was established in 2013. The Comba’s three daughters, Ann Margaret Winn, Kathryn Metcalfe and Michelle DeGhetto, established this scholarship to honor their parents and their legacy of advancing education in Idaho. Dr. John Comba devoted his life to his family and to the families of others through his profession as an educator. He served as director of special education for the Idaho State Department of Education under Gov. Cecil Andrus. After serving the state, John spent many years at the local school level, holding multiple leadership posts before he retired from the Kuna School District in 1995. Dr. John Comba died May 30, 2004. Dr. Trudy Comba also dedicated her life to education. She was hired to start the Early Childhood Studies program at the College of Education in 1970 and taught at Boise State University until 1980. Her love of children and passion for early childhood education led her to found A Small World Center for Creativity, a successful group of preschools in Boise, ID. Hundreds of Boise children got their educational start at A Small World; Dr. Trudy Comba retired in 1995 and now lives in Hawaii.
