Bert & Mary Ellen Hoidal Memorial Scholarship in Elementary Education
The Bert & Mary Hoidal Memorial Scholarship in Elementary Education was established in 2006 in honor of the late Bert and Mary Ellen Hoidal. Mary Ellen graduated from Notus High School in 1940 and went on to receive her teaching credential from Lewiston State Normal and then her BA in Elementary Education from Boise State College. She then went on to teach for the next 32 years. It was her love of teaching children the skills they would need to achieve success in their lives that took her to schools in Nezperce, Mackay and Eagle, Idaho as well as Whittier, Central, Mountain View and Highlands in the Boise School District. She received many awards including the Retired Educators of Idaho Hall of Fame Award and the Red Apple Award for teaching excellence. She was a member of Alpha Delta Kappa, the Retired Educators of America, and Business and Professional Women’s Association. Bert pursued a career with Idaho First National Bank and later with the U.S. Small Business Administration.
